Look who came to Visit

8th July 2022J Parker

What an unexpected visitor we had in nursery! Hiding in a box in the garage was a toad! It was carefully carried inside where all the children had the chance to have a look…but you’ll never guess what happened next? It leapt out of the box and jumped around the conservatory!!! It then jumped around the koala room, and then the Penguin room!!! It was gently rescued, placed back in the box and put in a quiet place outside. Later on that morning we went to see if it was still there..but it had hopped off!!!!

Koala Fun!

5th July 2022J Parker

Following on from sharing week last week in which some of our parents shared their careers with us we set up a hospital/doctors surgery. The children really enjoyed dressing their friends with bandages, checking their temperatures, listening to each other’s heart beats and administering medication to those who needed it. We also used our writing skills to fill out prescriptions for the Helen Gibson patients.

We also have been showing lots of interest in Volcano’s so we painted our very own volcano ready for an experiment next week! The children used lots of different colours to create the Volcano and making it look as real as possible.

We also recalled on our trip to the farm last week. We created a large scale drawing of our very own farm, talking about where the animals live, what animals there would be and any other things we may find at the farm. The children were very detailed with their drawings, recalling what their favourite part of the farm was and also adding in some animals or other parts of the farm that weren’t there such as a duck pond.

We also explored some mark making using our hands and smaller tools on a large shower curtain! No area was left uncovered and it was a great messy activity.

We are Proud of our Uniqueness

1st July 2022J Parker

To celebrate Pride Week children came to nursery wearing their favourite colours.  We talked about what made us individual and what makes us unique.  We discussed our families and how each one can be very unique in who lives in our houses, what we like to do, what we eat and how we should celebrate this!  Children brought in a stone as big as their hand and were able to decorate it with whichever colours we wanted.

Gardening with the lodge

30th June 2022J Riley

This term we introduced the children to their natural world. We planted vegetables, flowers and seeds. We supported the children, giving them the information they needed to look after the plants and flowers and explained how they will change over time. The children have had such fun helping to look after them and talking about the changes they have observed week after week. They are very proud of what they have achieved, as are we. This week the children picked the spring onions. We smelled them, touched them and talked about how they had changed from a tiny brown bulb. We offered the children to taste them and they weren’t very keen, so we explored them in other ways, such as adding them to our home corner and painting with them.

Next to pick is our potatoes and watch as the pumpkins start to grow from little green bulbs into big round orange pumpkins.

Sharing week

27th June 2022J Parker

We had so much fun this week.  Our families came in to share their special talents and jobs with us.  We learnt how to become a good artist, a scientist, a footballer and a nurse.  Some of our families did arts and crafts with us and others came in to read stories.  On Friday we learned about how important it is for us to get jobs when we are older from a Mam who works in a bank.  This has been a very special week!

Fun at the Farm

27th June 2022J Parker

We had so much fun at Hall Hill Farm

We were able to stroke a huge rabbit. It was very heavy!

We also held a guinea pig. He was very soft.

We fed some of the animals with milk as they were just babies.

The animals tongues tickled our hands.

We even had a ride on a tractor.

We were exhausted by the time we went home and some of us even fell asleep!

Bug Hunting with the Panda Group

13th June 2022J Parker

We had a special chart to show us the types of mini beasts we might spot in our nursery garden.

We had a think about the equipment we might need then off we went to explore.

We checked under rocks, wooden tree trunk stumps and in the mud and were amazed at all the creatures we found!

What the Koala’s did this week WB 16th May 2022

24th May 2022J Riley

The Koala’s have had a very busy week this week. We have been learning about different rhyming words, we have read stories at small group time looking for rhyming words. We took part in a game where we splatted the words we thought that rhymed like cat and hat, house and mouse, three and tree. The children worked really hard sounding the words out and identifying words that they thought rhymed.

We also explored some new outdoor equipment and how to use it safely talking about what the items were called and how we could use them. Next the fun part trying them out some of the children worked together to play games with the objects while others showed how they could be individually used.

There has been lots of investigating going on outside and in forest school so this was extended to our tuff tray where we used magnifying glasses to identify some creepy crawlies hiding in the soil.

We finished our week making yummy pizzas which the children have been really looking forwards to doing. We talked about how we used the cutlery and what toppings we could put on top. The children loved eating them after Miss Storey cooked them in the oven.
