Spring term in the lodge

12th May 2026J Riley

As the wether warms up and the sun begins to shine we have had lots to look forward to in the lodge. We have a had a very busy spring term, including celebrating world book day, learning about spring, getting back out into Forest School,  our Mother’s Day stay and play and getting really egg-cited for Easter.

We have dressed up in our favourite character costumes and explored story themed activities, invited the special women in our life to join us for stay and play, explored moving like spring animals, learning new spring songs, messy egg play, going on an egg hunt and meeting Miss Riley’s baby bunnies

Yo ho ho…. I can spot a pirate!

14th June 2024J Riley

The lodge children have discovered pirates. It all started with a tyre and some guttering. Freddie climbed aboard the tyre and announced to his friends “we are pirates, ahaarr.”

As the children joined they discussed what they would find, like monsters, sharks and treasure. Jaxxon chose a block and used it as binoculars to look for the treasure.

This led us to team building where the children created a pirate ship.

Which led to creating pirate patches to get into character.

We added pirate ships, canons and figures to the water trays.

And golden coins to the sand.

Inside we made our own pirate flags.

What a busy 2 weeks it has been.

Sorting in the lodge

1st May 2024J Riley

Recently in the lodge we have been exploring sorting. to start with we sorted by color so the children could grasp what sorting meant. the children chose different objects and matched them to the same color on the parachute.

Next we moved onto some thing more tricky. I gave each of the children a bag of mixed natural objects and modeled how i would sort them. the children quickly understood and were able to match the objects into categories.

Chicks!

1st May 2024J Riley

Last week some eggs were delivered to nursery. 7 of them hatched into chicks. we had to wait a few days for them to grow but once they were big enough we were able to hold them.

some of the children were a little unsure and liked to look at them from a distance. others were very keen to have them on their knee and to hold them and touch them.

Making smoothies in the lodge

13th July 2023J Riley

Today we made smoothies. The children worked hard to chop the fruit before we added it into the blender. We then took turns to pour some orange juice into the blender. Miss Riley then turned the blender on and it was very loud. It mixed all of the fruit and juice together. Miss Riley then poured some out into a cup for each of the children to try. Everyone really enjoyed it.

When one thing leads to another…..

14th June 2023J Riley

The children had a really good idea. It started with them jumping from the bench. Miss Riley introduced a hoop for the children to jump in to. The children started to discuss how far they could jump and who could go the furthest. We moved the hoop backwards to see who could jump the furthest. Miss Riley then suggested marking the children’s distance on the ground. This led to more discussion from the children around how far they could jump and who had longer legs. Following this there became an interest in mark making. The children began to mark their own distances and that of their friends. Quickly this led to the children mark making on the ground and then drawing around objects and each other. We discussed writing each other’s names and Miss Riley helped with this. The children then had a go at it them selves. This turned out to be a very busy afternoon with lots of learning taking place. And it all stemmed from jumping off the bench.

15th December 2022J Riley

The children in the lodge have experienced snow for the first time this year. We watched as it began to fall. We then played on the yard, making snow balls and snowmen and catching it with our hands.

We explored sledging on the hill. It was so much fun, we went so so fast!

Exploring foods with our senses…..

10th October 2022J Riley

This term we welcomed back some of our returners and said hello to lots of new friends. The children have been so busy exploring their environment. Some of our new friends have been enjoying trying new foods at snack time. This led us to explore a range of fruits and vegetables in our tough spot. The children were encouraged to use all their senses to explore it. Some weren’t so keen, but others loved to smell, feel and even taste the food.
