Koala Fun

27th November 2023J Parker

Another exciting week in nursery! Here are some of the activities Koala group have enjoyed this week…..exploring light and colour on the lightbox, using hands and fingers to paint and mix colour, large scale mark making with chalk and exploring dry sand. Outside some children painted tiles, made bird feeders to hang in the trees to look after the birds at this time of year when food is less easy to find, got creative (and messy!) in our mud kitchen, created a bus by using the block trolley and putting on a show on our new outdoor stage. Hope next week is just as imaginative, inventive and exciting!

Happy Diwali!!

During small group time children looked at Rangoli Patterns and then made their own Diwali patterns using coloured pens.

Outside children made Diwali fireworks sticks. We first collected sticks, flowers and leaves and then we assembled the fireworks using multi coloured pipe cleaners.

Giraffe Group Fun

A busy week in nursery

We have been so busy in nursery this week and we have had so much fun together.

We had our Halloween party, where the children were invited to come to nursery in fancy dress. We played party games such as pass the spider and we danced at the spooky disco before enjoying a special party snack, what a treat.

This week we have also been learning about bonfire night and we have been creating our own fireworks. In the sensory tray we used our fingers and a variety of mark making tools to draw patterns in flour. We have splattered colourful paint and we have created collages to look like fireworks and bonfires.

On Friday we learned about the importance of Remembrance Day and we had a day full of wonderful activities. We made poppy biscuits and pictures, we explored poppies in the sensory tray and we created poppies out of play dough. Some of the children told us that they had seen poppies around the village on their way to nursery and have been counting them, I wonder how many poppies there could be.

Vegetable Soup

16th October 2023J Parker

During work time we made vegetable soup. First, we washed our hands, then we discussed the safety around using the knife. Next, we decided what vegetables we wanted in our soup. We had potatoes, carrots and onions. We tried really hard to chopped them up… it wasn’t easy and then we placed them in a bowl. We took turns to mix all the vegetables and then it was time to cook.

When it was ready it was time to taste it and it was delicious!

Fun in Foam

9th October 2023J Parker

We have been having so much fun using our senses to explore the shaving foam in the sensory tray this week. The children have spoken about how the foam smells, how it feels against their skin and what it looks like. Some children said, ‘it looks like snow’ and they discovered that they could make it look like falling snow if they clapped their foam covered hands together. Some of the children said it felt soft, sticky, fluffy and wet as they used their hands to feel the foam.

The children used their fingers to mark make and create lines, shapes, patterns and faces. When the children were finished playing and washed their hands, they were fascinated to see the foam sliding off their skin and disappearing down the plug hole and noiticing how the foam changed when water was added. The shaving foam provided endless fun in nursery and is a fun activity to try at home too.

I wonder what we could add to the foam for the children to explore next week…

Windy Days

2nd October 2023J Parker

What great fun we had making our own kites to play with outside. The children decorated some paper with lots of colorful pens, creating patters and designs to personalize them. They also added ribbon, tape and coloured tissue paper. The children took their kites outside and up to the top of the hill.  It was so windy up there! We had great fun and lots of laughs.

Hall Hill Farm 23

23rd June 2023J Parker

What a fantastic day out we all had at Hall Hill Farm. We fed lots of animals..sheep, goats and llammas, bottle fed lambs, milked a cow (!), and gently handled and stroked guinnea pigs, rabbits and chicks. We saw highland cows and their calves, some very large pigs, a very bouncy wallaby and a very large turkey called Henry! We mustn’t forget the ride on the tractor, which was great fun and VERY bumpy!
