Big Garden Bird Watch
This week we took part in ‘The Big Garden Birdwatch’. We spent time outside, listening and
watching carefully and quietly, to try and spot different birds in the nursery garden. We talked
about common birds we might see and used a visual checklist to tick off any birds that we
did see. We saw lots of seagulls, pigeons, blackbirds and crows and a beautiful little robin.
We also learned about what garden birds eat and how we can help them by providing some
extra food, especially when the ground freezes and trees are bare. With our hands, we
squashed and moulded lard, sprinkled seeds and rolled the mixture, before adding a hanger
to create our own bird feeders to take home.
I wonder if we will see any different birds in our own gardens while they enjoy eating from
our bird feeders.
