This has been a ‘super’ start to the year for our children in main nursery. We have been choosing and reading our own books, making new friends, working with each other, exploring new sensory textures and best of all….HAVING FUN!
We had a beautiful day celebrating with our children who are leaving us to start their school journey. So many parents and carers came, it was amazing! Hope you all have a lovely summer, and we look forward to welcoming back our returners and excited to meet all of our new children in September.
Thank you to those parents who supported our Sharing Week, where the children had the opportunity to explore a police car, try on a uniform and press all the buttons in the car! The children also had a relaxing yoga class, and a cooking experience where the most delicious chocolate cookies were made, cooked…..then eaten!
We have been so busy in the run up to Christmas! From Santa’s Work shop where wrote letters to Santa to decorating Christmas Trees, painting with glitter and making cards and calendars for our families. We loved the Polar Express Day, the visits from Peep the Elf and practised hard for our Christmas Nativity. We are definitely on Santa’s Nice List! We made many memories and had lots of fun.
What an exciting evening we all had! We came to nursery in our pyjamas, we had hot chocolate and ginger bread biscuits as we watched Polar Express and
we’ve all had the reindeer dust, and the bell that you only hear ring if you truly believe.
A busy week in nursery
We have been so busy in nursery this week and we have had so much fun together.
We had our Halloween party, where the children were invited to come to nursery in fancy dress. We played party games such as pass the spider and we danced at the spooky disco before enjoying a special party snack, what a treat.
This week we have also been learning about bonfire night and we have been creating our own fireworks. In the sensory tray we used our fingers and a variety of mark making tools to draw patterns in flour. We have splattered colourful paint and we have created collages to look like fireworks and bonfires.
On Friday we learned about the importance of Remembrance Day and we had a day full of wonderful activities. We made poppy biscuits and pictures, we explored poppies in the sensory tray and we created poppies out of play dough. Some of the children told us that they had seen poppies around the village on their way to nursery and have been counting them, I wonder how many poppies there could be.
During work time we made vegetable soup. First, we washed our hands, then we discussed the safety around using the knife. Next, we decided what vegetables we wanted in our soup. We had potatoes, carrots and onions. We tried really hard to chopped them up… it wasn’t easy and then we placed them in a bowl. We took turns to mix all the vegetables and then it was time to cook.
When it was ready it was time to taste it and it was delicious!

What an exciting and amazing two weeks we have had in nursery…all of our new children have settled really well and our returners have supported them to do so. The children are developing friendships and together have explored nursery. These are some of things that Koala group have been experiencing since the start of term……….
What a fantastic day out we all had at Hall Hill Farm. We fed lots of animals..sheep, goats and llammas, bottle fed lambs, milked a cow (!), and gently handled and stroked guinnea pigs, rabbits and chicks. We saw highland cows and their calves, some very large pigs, a very bouncy wallaby and a very large turkey called Henry! We mustn’t forget the ride on the tractor, which was great fun and VERY bumpy!

The children had a really good idea. It started with them jumping from the bench. Miss Riley introduced a hoop for the children to jump in to. The children started to discuss how far they could jump and who could go the furthest. We moved the hoop backwards to see who could jump the furthest. Miss Riley then suggested marking the children’s distance on the ground. This led to more discussion from the children around how far they could jump and who had longer legs. Following this there became an interest in mark making. The children began to mark their own distances and that of their friends. Quickly this led to the children mark making on the ground and then drawing around objects and each other. We discussed writing each other’s names and Miss Riley helped with this. The children then had a go at it them selves. This turned out to be a very busy afternoon with lots of learning taking place. And it all stemmed from jumping off the bench.
